Are Doulas only for unmedicated births?
Absolutely not! We support you and your decision to give birth where ever and how ever you want! Whether you want an epidural, want to try and avoid one or just want to see how things go, we are here to support YOU and YOUR decisions.
Does a doula replace my partner?
Nope, we enhance their role. Every partner has a unique relationship with you that we cannot replace. Simply put, you two made this baby, your partner has already trumped our level of emotional support. We offer a different level of emotional support, and this is something we can go on and on for days about! Our goal is to help partners gain confidence in their role, and learn what their comfort level with birth is.
Will my insurance cover a doula?
Because our role is of the non-medical capacity, most insurance companies will not cover costs. However, you are more than welcome to request reimbursement or use your Health Savings Account to cover costs. Doulas can potentially lower the cost of your hospital bill by avoiding unnecessary interventions, therefor, its always worth a shot at asking for reimbursement. Our team does not bill your insurance company nor do we submit requests.
Do both Hillary and Rachel attend my delivery?
Hillary and Rachel share an on-call schedule. This means, you'll receive our monthly on-call calendar and when you're in labor, ONE of us will join you. We will stay by your side the entire time, and in the case of a very long delivery, the well rested doula may come and offer fresh support if needed.
What if I don't have a partner?
We have worked with many single mothers in our career! We cater to your exact needs and help cultivate a strong support team prior to your big day.
I'm 34 weeks, is it too late for a doula?
Heck no! We are here for you whether you're 8 weeks or 34 weeks. The deciding factor is usually our calendar. Since we are a partnership, we can take on more clients. The power of 2, my friend.
Who will attend my prenatal appointments?
Hillary and Rachel will each attend one of your appointments. We do this so you have a chance to develop a relationship with the two of us, and in return, we get to know you and your partner better too!
Do I have to pay the whole fee upfront?
Most of our clients enroll in a mutually agreed upon payment plan. You can make little or large installments. Even more of a reason to hire us early on, so you can make affordable payments.
Are doulas well received at the hospital?
WE are! Hillary and Rachel are both part-time hospital employees, so we have wonderful moral going on at our local hospital. Further more, we know hospital etiquette and we operate within a Scope of Practice, all of this makes for a supportive team all the way around. Nurses and Care Providers who understand our role, are happy to see us there with you. We like to think we make their jobs a little easier as well. We are an extra set of non-medical hands, keeping their patient emotionally and physically well.
